Video Tour of Jordan River Temple Interior

The Jordan River Temple in Utah was the one temple Decker and I visited on our honeymoon, but didn’t get to actually enter because it was closed the day we were there. I’m happy to see this temple completing a makeover done on it and getting ready for re-dedication.

More Goodness

Another run to Walmart

Picking up my order of rolls for the Young Women’s fundraiser

A Much Needed Good Friday

I awoke at 4:30 this morning to the painful realization I had forgotten to take any pain meds before I went to bed.  This past Tuesday I got the stitches out from surgery #1 and, given some other circumstances coming up, it was decided to do surgery #2 at that point.  I stopped off and dropped off the doctor’s note at work, picked up my lunch pail and went home.

So, I have stitches in my mouth, just in a different location, but both areas are still very sensitive and sore.  The surgeon was very happy, though, with the progress I had made with the area involved in surgery #1.  He says I’m a quick healer.  I can thank God for that one.  LOL.

Back to this morning, I took 3 - 200mg of ibuprofen, ate some banana baby food, then took another hydrocodone pill.  I watched a little bit of YouTube and went back to bed and back to sleep.

I awoke at 9:30 this morning, fed the cats, then fixed myself a 3 egg scramble with cheese and minced onions.  I added a little bit of water to make it more fluffy.  Pretty good stuff, then I took more if the ibuprofen.

This afternoon I stopped off at AmeriCopy and got another 3 months of my daily planner printed for me.  I’m thinking I need to invest in a color laser printer for my home.  They do a fantastic job, but it does cost a little bit of money.  The good news:  I have 3 more months to be able to get things planned!  I need to clean out the 3 ring binder I use for these, so I can get things squared away.  I also need to get ready for taxes.  Ugh.

Excellence Within A Family

I was very privileged to have worked at Laird for 7 years, and continue to look for the small ways to continue to help out.

Success!

Today was the annual picnic for the retirees (and one remaining employee) of Sky Chefs.  My Mother used to spear head the occasion, this time it was one of the other ladies who made many of the phone calls to keep it going.  It sounds like they are wanting to keep the annual tradition, so I’m thankful they still want me to come.  I brought a video of Mom and Dad I had made after Dad’s death while I was working at Laird, which people seemed to really enjoy.

For food, I made a batch of the Corn Casserole Mom would make on special occasions, although Mom usually took baked beans for these potlucks.  I’ll have to remind myself to do that next year.

The Corn Casserole, though, was a success!

The Recipe:

Corn Casserole
(From Fran Sells)

1# can Cream style Corn
2/3 cup coarse crushed saltine cracker crumbs
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 egg
2 Tbsp finely cut onions (or minced onions)
½ tsp dry mustard
Salt & Pepper to taste.

Mix well in a large bowl the above ingredients.  Pour into buttered 1 ½ qt. Casserole dish.  Bake 50 – 55 minutes in 350° oven until firm.  Test with knife…when it comes out clean, it’s done.  Do not undercook.

The Second Most Dangerous Place For Me To Visit

The most dangerous store for me to shop at is a bookstore.  I can do so much damage to my wallet at a bookstore.

The second most dangerous, however, is The Container Store.

Right now is their kitchen organization sale.

Little By Little - March 18, 2018

LIttle by little I’ve been working in the area next to the door to my home.  It’s where the dining room table meets the pantry (aka bookshelves as there is no kitchen pantry).

This is how it looked in 2016:

This is how it looked in 2017:

This is how it looks as of tonight (with the new blue recycle bin for paper products to go out):

Next on the list will be the pantry.  There is a lot of expired foods there, so it will need to be gone through.  In the meantime, I’ve consolidated the extra treats into a bin behind the apron and blue recycle bag, and the white bin to the left of it on the shelf holds the consolidated (and not expired) cough drops.  I did n’t realize I had that much, but now that everything is in a reachable spot, I won’t be needing to buy any more cough drops for a LONG time!

Oral surgery went well.  I have a mouth full of stitches and a really sore jaw (TMJ), so the next few days will be quiet ones.

I should have everything I need as far as groceries and I’ve picked up the prescriptions and some items they wanted me to use post op for bleeding, swelling, inflammation.

Now for the healing to begin.  One more thing to check off my self care list.  Painful, yes, but needed.

Yesterday morning the repair shop came by with my rental and picked up my car.  What happened?  A car accident on the 5th.  I won’t go into details, and thankfully my little Honda wasn’t so badly damaged it would be totaled.  Some minor work on the dents.

I got word while at Walgreens today that, if all goes well, I should have my little car back this Friday!  In the meantime, I’m driving a rental, and since the small vehicles were unavailable, they have me driving a Dodge Grand Caravan.  It’s nice, but waaaaaay too big for me.  I’ll take my little Honda instead.

Do You Ever Feel Invisible?

I do, a lot.  I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of a “cool crowd”, and perhaps that’s a good thing.

A dear friend posted this article on Facebook and I thought I’d share it here.

Am I Invisible

Frugalwoods

Very, very cool.  I’m so thrilled that some of our young ones are seeking the life that suits them, rather than the expected norms.  Yesterday’s article is now a story on PBS Newshour.

More Early Retirement Examples

Here is a recent article from the Guardian:

The Messy Minimalist

I’ve been subscribed to her for at least 3-4 months and I love her channel.  It’s one of the videos I will use to keep me motivated while clearing out the clutter.  She has started some monthly challenges, I haven’t started on these, but I’m hoping to soon.

8 March 2018

After working an 8 hour shift, I’ve fed the cats, taken some recycling out to the recycling center, brought in Costco purchases made Wednesday after work, run a load of dishes, folded up and put away the laundry in the dryer, put the load of laundry in the washing machine into the dryer and started a new load of laundry in the washing machine.

And a load of dishes.

I still have two more loads of dishes and countless more loads of laundry to go, but there you have it.  It’s a start.

Not bad given that the cats woke me at 3:00 this morning.

Thankfully, tomorrow is Friday, and the last day before Spring Break next week.

We’ll see what I get done next week, as I have no plans set to go anywhere.

Truth

I love this message from the Mormon Channel, I know someone who is obsessed with knowing the truth of all things, and while there are things he discovers that I agree with, there are others I don’t based upon my own “reality”.

I’ve posted about this before, but the story used reminds me of Plato’s Cave.

It’s Working!

The iTunes you see here, is running completely off the external hard drive, no longer on my computer’s hard drive.  I’ve plugged in one of the external drives that has been holding some of the other videos, so now I’ll import them into THIS library!  Progress!

AND with 122 GB of data removed from my computer, it should be running a LOT better!

Still Transferring...

Yeah, 122 GB of music and movies does take a while to transfer over.  And this is only the stuff I had on my computer.  There are a LOT more movies and music that wasn’t on my computer.  Hence the 8 TB external drive.

Will It Work?

The process of moving my overflowing iTunes library to an external drive begins.  I’ve already changed the preferences to read off the external drive, we’ll see what happens when I actually move the library over.

Since I use Time Machine, everything is already backed up.

Now About Those Cleaning Bars...

We use these for cleaning off the white keys on Mac keyboards (dry, of course), but I had no idea about this!

Harry & Fawkes

Many of you know I’m a Harry Potter nut, although, I’m not sure which I love more, Harry Potter or Disney.  Tough choice if I had to make one.

So, this is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while.

What if:  Harry is symbolically a phoenix, just like Fawkes is an actual phoenix?

What if:  Harry was “christened” with Fawkes’ tears as a baby?  We know that Dumbledore had visited James and Lily just prior to their deaths, because he had possession of James’ cloak of invisibility.

Would that have had anything to do with Harry rising like a phoenix as he grew older and being able to meet the challenges of living with the Dursleys?

Remember, in book 2 (Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets), Fawkes gives tears to Harry.  Not to Ginny, not to Ron, only to Harry.  What physiological effect would those tears have on Harry’s body in handling the challenges that would come later?

Would the tears (along with the tail feather in Harry’s wand) have been instrumental in the wand shielding Harry from the killing curse every time it was tossed at him?

The other question is regarding the cloak.  Since Peter Pettigrew was giving information to Voldemort, does that mean that, while he was intent on killing Harry to stop Harry from killing Voldemort, was Voldemort seeking to kill James because he knew from Peter that James would have the cloak of invisibility?

Enjoy this video from SuperCarlinBrothers.  This is one of a few channels I go to for trivia and fun from the Harry Potter world.
