Day 13

Today marks one year since my Mother passed away.  She was found on July 8th barely alive, suffering from heat stroke.  They managed to keep her alive and she was in the ICU until my sister arrived on July 11th.  There were no advance directives on her, so as my sister and I were the last remaining children, we both had to make the call to remove her from life support.  She was removed around 5:30 pm on July 12th and passed away at 5:30 am on July 13th.  She was ready to go.

Given the occasion, my one bag for today will be the artificial flowers for her and Dad’s graves and a set of artificial flowers for Decker’s grave.

I stepped away from the linens for today and decided to clear out the floor of the back end of my closet.  I think these two plastic “treasure boxes” (they are shaped like treasure chests) were purchased at Target, but that would have been 19-20 years ago while Decker was still alive.

They hold our four sleeping bags.  The problem is, I’ve not been camping  in about 17-18 years and there is no point in one person having four sleeping bags.  For now, I’m taking two out of one and re-using it to hold some pillows and the pillow cases that will go on my master bed once that is brought out of storage and reassembled.  The bed was retrieved out of Mom’s house (it was mine, but Decker died before we got all  of my furniture moved over), but I’m holding off until I can get all of the carpeting removed from my home to have vinyl sheet flooring put in that will handle the cats better.

Decluttering will help expedite that process, which is the other reason I am so keen on doing this.  It needs to be done.

The before:

And after:

With the sleeping bags and old pillows (the cases were put in the bin)

The sleeping bags are good, they just need laundering and can go to someone who needs them.  The pillows were going bad, so they will be donated to the Animal Control to use on pets turned in.

Frank Lloyd Wright

I studied Frank Lloyd Wright as part of an Architecture class I took at ASU.  These videos are not all of his creations, just a small fraction.  I enjoyed visiting Taliesin West last year.

My Solo Stove Arrived!

I’ve been wanting to get a Solo Stove for my emergency preparedness supplies for a while now, and the opportunity to get one finally came.

It wasn’t on sale, however because I belong to REI Cooperative, I had a dividend earned from last year’s spending to order the Solo Stove Lite from them and the dividend covered a little over half the price.  Because the stove costs over $50.00 I also got the shipping free!

Here is the video from The Urban Prepper talking about the stove.  I didn’t get the pot that goes on top, as I already have a metal mess kit containing a pot and a make-shift frying pan.
