One Song, Two Crazy Videos

This is the latest addition to my iPod.  It's not a new song, and I had heard it before, but I like the dance beat.  Obviously someone else does too.  :-)

School Pics

We've all had them, the good, the bad and the ugly.  This one didn't turn out so bad!

Notes From Students

The most fun part of working in education comes in the form of notes, conversations and interactions with the students.

Last week, for my birthday I received colorful homemade cards of flowers and cakes from all four of our kindergarten classes, and one very thoughtful teacher even escorted five students from another teacher's class to my computer lab to serenade me a happy birthday.

That wasn't the only serenade, though, as all of the classes for that day, the second and third graders at my lunch duty as well as the sixth graders over speaker phone also sang happy birthday.

Today was another treat.  I was outside doing my crossing guard job when one of the students handed me a baggie with a cookie, a napkin and a note while saying thank you for keeping her alive.  She meant safe, but the way people drive through school zones these days, there's probably more truth to that than I'd care to admit to.

When I later had time to enjoy the cookie (homemade chocolate chip, the BEST), I read the note.  Keep in mind, this is from a second grader, they still don't have the proper word usage and grammar down yet.

Dear Mrs. Bushman
Thank you for the cross.  And for keeping us alive.

Your Friend,

(Student's Name)

Priceless.

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook, I thought it would be nice to post it here as well.

Steven Colbert Testifies Before Congress

Now, granted, this got the publicity it deserves, but why does it take a celebrity endorsement for people to take notice of situations like this? Why is this not more readily covered by the media than the latest celebrity divorces, weddings, arguments, fights with Paparazzi, or simply who is doing what crazy thing. We hear more about Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan than we do about the working poor, the homeless, or even this topic, which is the life of illegal immigrants picking our fruits and vegetables on farms here in U.S. I remember when I was young, in Girl Scouts, we used to go and collect large cardboard boxes (refrigerator boxes) for the migrant workers to use as shelter. That was back in the 1970's.

My Latest iPod Addition

When this song first came out it reminded me of my late brother who died from a drunk driver. Now it reminds me more of Decker.

Just Because

I've had the week from Hell and am thankful it's over. One day in particular, Wednesday, was bad, starting with leaving my packed lunch at home and ending with driving home with my Flip Ultra forgotten and left on the trunk of my car, smashed on a busy road and run over a few times before I could safely pull off the road and retrieve it. This left the last two Wednesday's worth of recording student council election speeches irretrievably lost and finally brought me to tears once I got home. I do have to say, though, as bad as that day was, the day my husband passed away would have to be the worst I've ever had, so I'm keeping things in perspective.

Another incident that began on Wednesday, which I won't go into details about, reminded me of the movie "Better Off Dead" with John Cusack. I remember throughout the movie you see a newspaper boy going after John's character for his $2.

The clip below is where it begins.

How Did I Miss This One?

Oh yeah, that's right. I have a very busy life. LOL.

Enjoy.

Sign Me Up!

Yeah, I'm joking, but it reminds me of something that happened to Decker. He was prompted by the Holy Ghost to ask a specific, and beautiful, woman out on a date. She told him no. He was prompted to ask her again, he did, she again said no. This happened a third time and he never got that prompting again.

Shortly after Decker and I got married, I had an encounter where I was in the same room with this woman who was telling everyone in the room about how she was looking for specific qualities in a man. All of these qualities matched Decker exactly. The only problem for her was, it wasn't wrapped in a pretty package. I thought Decker was handsome, but he wasn't an obvious beauty, and, for that matter, neither am I. :-)

The Newest Fanilow

Now that Barry Manilow's Fan Club has weeded those of us willing to speak the truth about things off of his official site, I guess he's figured it's safe to test the waters.

I wonder if he'll join the groups with the porn writings about him?

Interesting.

An interesting blog discussing the fallout from the copyright infringement lawsuits from a Las Vegas publication. I was wondering if this would happen, perhaps it is.

This isn't surprising, but it's not good either. If they really want to see an indicator, go to the low income (Title 1) public schools.

Conventions - Another Day At The Office For Celebrities

A very interesting article about handling celebrities at conventions, while handling the stalkers as well.

U.S. Nevada Senate Candidate Copyright Lawsuit

I'm assuming the articles she is being sued for were about her, so I'm wondering if we could see some changes in the copyright laws regarding Fair Use?

Taking Back Your Lunch Breaks

I just read a very good (and timely) story about the benefits of taking an actual 30 minute + lunch break.
